Below is a list of free resources for embroidery patterns. You can find a host of patterns, including flowers, animals, modern art and more. Embroidery is the perfect hobby for someone who enjoys creating with their hands. You need very few supplies to start embroidering – just some fabric, thread, a needle and an embroidery hoop.
DMC website
DMC, which is known for their embroidery floss, offers thousands of gorgeous embroidery patterns for free. Find them all here. Also, don't miss their tutorial section for more patterns, such as this double hooped holiday wreath. When you sign up for DMC's newsletter, they will send you a coupon for 20% off your first purchase on their site.
Anchor Crafts
Anchor Crafts offers hundreds of free patterns on their site. Check out their freestyle embroidery section here.
The Spruce Crafts
The Spruce Crafts is another site that offers many free patterns for all skill levels. Check out this list of their 25 most popular free patterns.

This is a UK site for multiple creative magazines and they offer many free embroidery patterns. Click here to access their library of free patterns. I love this bee pattern and this cultivate kindness pattern.
Follow embroidery artists on Instagram or on their blogs
Many embroidery artists offer free patterns as an incentive for you to sign up for their mailing list. Here are a few that I love:
Jessica Long: Jessica is a force is the modern embroidery world and has tons of free offerings on her site.
Tory McNidder (@TheBarmyFox): She offers a free Stitch-A-Long every February and periodic free patterns in her free Facebook group. Tory is a wonderful teacher and I have learned so much from her. I cannot recommend her stitchalongs highly enough!
Kristen Gula (@Gulushthreads): Another popular artists, check out her free flower pattern
French Mango: She offers wonderful free patterns, including a series of seasonal patterns that are sooooo cute. Be sure to also click on the stitchalong section of her site.
Cutesy Crafts: She has more than 35 free embroidery patterns on her site, including flowers, animals, word art and holiday. Love!
Crewel Goul: Amanda has a great round-up of free patterns, plus several that she offers herself on her site.
Search "free embroidery patterns" on Pinterest and you will find a wide-variety of patterns.
YouTube
Search "free embroidery patterns" on YouTube to find patterns with video tutorials. For instance, Ney Arts and Crafts offers dozens of free patterns and tutorials on her channel, with many perfect for beginners. One of my favorite artists is Dina Vingert, and she offers a free pattern here.
Creativebug
Creativebug offers thousands of free craft classes, including embroidery classes. Each class includes free patterns. Sign up to get two months free here. You can download the patterns, check out the classes, etc. If you decide not to do a membership after the two months, you still can keep all the patterns you download. This is one of the best resources on the Internet to learn embroidery. I absolutely love the teachers, including Lauren Holton of Lark Rising Embroidery, Anna Hultin of OlanderCO Embroidery and Rebecca Ringquist of Dropcloth.
Your Local Library
Check out embroidery books at your local library and use the patterns in the books. Embroidery books are useful resources, as they go into a lot of detail in getting started, what materials to use and beautiful patterns.
